The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Confession or Penance, is a Sacrament of Healing. It provides us with an opportunity to confess our sins to Jesus, who is present in the priest, and be reconciled to God.
It was instituted by Jesus when He showed Himself to His apostles on Easter day and commanded them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (John 20:22-23). Any baptized Catholic may receive this Sacrament as often as it is needed, and practicing Catholics are required to go to Confession at least once a year. Baptized individuals who are preparing to receive their First Communion go to Reconciliation as part of their preparation process. Non-baptized persons who wish to enter the Church may prepare for Reconciliation as well through our Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) program.
For children who wish to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time, please contact our Religious Education Coordinator, Maureen Goetz, for information about the preparation process. Because Sacraments are celebrated as a parish, all participants in Sacramental preparation must be registered members of the parish.
For adults who wish to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time, please contact our parish rectory for information about enrolling in our OCIA program.
