In case you have seen the ads or heard about the Education Freedom Tax Credit in the news, here is a brief summary with more information to come!
Starting January 1, 2027, you can direct up to $1,700 of your federal income tax liability to support St. Mary’s students who are seeking K-12 private school scholarships.
How does the Education Freedom Tax Credit work? Taxpayers can receive a credit of up to $1,700 for contributions made to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) that would otherwise have been owed to the government in federal income taxes. A tax credit reduces the amount of federal income tax owed dollar-for-dollar - unlike a deduction, which only decreases your taxable income. Contributions can be made to a locallybased, statewide scholarship granting organization: Opportunity Scholarships of Nebraska (OSN). OSN is the official scholarship granting organization partner of the Archdiocese of Omaha. With OSN, you will be able to designate the majority of your contribution to benefit kids who choose to attend St. Mary’s Parish School.
