Here are just a few reasons why St. Mary's School is a good fit for military families:
Military-Connected Faculty & Staff
Many of our staff and faculty members have military connections and understand the needs of military families. Our staff is offered Professional Development through the Military Child Education Coalition and have access to a wide array of resources and materials to help military-connected children and their families.
Purple Star School
St. Mary's is honored to be a Purple Star School. A Purple Star School is a designation awarded to military-friendly schools that demonstrate a major commitment to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected students and their families. Because active-duty military families frequently relocate (typically moving 6 to 9 times during a child's K-12 education), students face unique academic and social hurdles. The Purple Star program helps these children successfully navigate transitioning between schools with different cultures, standards, and graduation requirements.
New Military Family Discount
Military families are so important to our Bellevue community and the proximity to our school has created a strong bond between the students and faculty of St. Mary's School and the residents of Offutt Airforce Base. St. Mary's offers a one-time $250 tuition credit for students from military households. Counseling Services
St. Mary's offers on-site counselling services provided by a licensed Mental Health Provider through Catholic Charities. Our counselor is trained to help children and adolescents navigate the challenges of transitioning from elementary to middle school, being new to the school, social anxiety, and separation from a family member due to deployment - just to name a few concerns that may be specific to military life. There are no costs or insurance claims, and counseling is always confidential. Confidential family counseling is also available.
Local high schools also offer Guidance and Career Counseling, and many local colleges have Military and Veteran Liaison offices with personnel to assist with tuition assistance, enrollment, and academic testing.
Military Liaison
St. Mary's Military Liaison is available to:
- Be the school's primary point of contact for incoming and outgoing military families
- Keep a database of all military families, both past and present, in order to identify military-connected students and build a network of families with ties to St. Mary's School
- Be the school's intake officer to help families with record requests and transfers
- Review records to ensure the needs of students are met through academic and future academic resources and planning; including but limited to Special Education services, enrichment activities, career education, and educational assessments
- Connect new families with a local "Buddy Family" to help with questions about the school and the community
- Keep track of transcripts, logs, and information pertaining to course completion, graduation requirements, and academic planning as the student transitions into or out of the school
