How can I grow closer to Jesus?

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church. Its focus is to help men and women become closer to Jesus Christ through Mary. The Legion of Mary has been active in the United States since 1931 and has been approved by the last seven Popes. The Legion of Mary: “Our Lady of Perpetual Adoration” Praesidium was formed at St. Mary’s Bellevue parish in August, 1946 and has been adding members ever since.

If you are 18 years of age or older, we would like to invite you to become an active Legion of Mary member. As a member, you would be a part of a group that knows the power of prayer and what it means to help the members of our community. Our spiritual director will help guide you down the path that God has planned for you.

Active members come together once a week to pray and have a planning discussion. They also faithfully pray the Rosary and Legion prayers (called Tessera) daily at home and do two hours of service each week under the guidance of their spiritual director.  

Auxiliary members (may be of any age) pray the Rosary and Tessera daily at home as it fits their schedules. This might be a great opportunity for you to pray together with your family. These prayers are very important to the Legion’s work and are combined with the prayers of Legion members worldwide.

Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service in the Legion of Mary. Our works include visiting parishioners (the sick or aged), religious education, leading the Rosary at retirement centers, and meeting other spiritual needs of the parish community. Legionaries work under the guidance of a spiritual director named by the Pastor. The Legion is an extension of the heart and hands of the Pastor and, subsequently, those of Jesus.

Meeting Information

Meetings are held every Saturday at 2:15pm in the St. Mary's Parish Center conference room. Guests are always welcome.
