The teachers and staff were blown away by the response from the students and families that donated to our "Backpacks for the Homeless" Advent Service Project. Miss Krysl helped orchestrate this project and on the last day of school she filled her car with the backpacks the 7th graders had organized. On her way home, she decided that she was being called downtown to deliver right away. So she did.
"Well after about 30-45 minutes and about 3 stops where I met about 2 dozen beautiful people, everything is gone. Every single one of them was SO thankful and respectful, and even kind to each other as they opened a bag or backpack. They were giving some of the things to others standing around saying things like, 'you need this, I have one.' One guy was like 'give this to Judy and the dogs they can sleep on that.' It was the neatest thing to see them there for each other."
Miss Krysl told them she was a teacher and that the students of St. Mary's donated all of these things. They wanted the children to know they are grateful and they appreciate them. They said "God Bless them" and "wish we could thank them all." We were all moved by this experience and blown away by the way this made a difference to everyone. We have decided to continue this project as the need is still so great.
