As the Home & School Executive Board, we are always looking for ways to improve how we do things, pull in more volunteers, spend our budget wisely & thoughtfully and be as useful/helpful to the school & parents as we can. This being said, we have reconstructed the role of room parents in the hope of having more involvement in events from ALL of the parents/families in the school, not just a select few.
We also would like to increase the communication to and from room parents by having a representative at Home & School meetings. Our goal is for the room parents to really reach out to each family in their class throughout the year, encouraging each family to be involved as much as possible and to get help from each family - not just the room parents doing all of the work. Below, is outlined the new room parent roles - some are the same, some are different. We are hoping to have the room parents for the next school year lined up before the end of the current year. This will allow time for the parents to come up with ideas for the activities they will be heading up. As a room parent, you will be heading up these events along with the Executive Board, not by yourselves. By collaborating with each other, we hope to get input from more parents and reach out to more families for assistance with each event. Many families have asked for a personal connection - a phone call or face-to-face interaction. We are hoping to reach out personally to each family at the beginning of the school year as an Executive Board and also have the room parents reach out throughout the year to help rekindle the sense of family & community at the school.
We realize change can be difficult, and we hope to help spread out the responsibilities amongst many by enacting these changes. Please prayerfully consider whether you'd like to be a room parent next year. We will forward this information on to the entire school within a week, so please let us know if you'd like to serve as a room parent next year as soon as possible. Room Parent Responsibilities
- Each grade will have 2 room parent volunteers - one representative from each of the groupings below will attend the Home & School monthly general meetings.
- Room parents are in charge of organizing assigned Spirit Day lunches for teachers/staff, Christmas & Valentine's Day room parties, 1 auction project for the class, and the events listed below.
- One room parent from the following groups will be chosen (by room parent groups) as a representative to attend all Home & School general meetings (can be a different person attending each meeting or the same) and serve as a liaison of sorts between the other room parents and the Executive Board. The groups below, along with the Executive Board, will be in charge of organizing the following events:
- PK-2nd: Family Game Night and Family Movie Night
- 3rd-5th: End of Year Carnival
- 6th-8th: Halloween Fun Night
- Room parents may be asked by teachers for specific help with other items.
- Reach out to class parents throughout the year - we do have a volunteer to help with Spanish-speaking households, if that need should arise.
- Volunteers who choose to become room parents will automatically have their volunteer hours for the year fulfilled.
