The word “votive” refers to an object offered in prayer or in fulfillment of a vow. We light small candles, called votive candles, to represent our prayers to God in a very special, physical way. The light from the burning candles reminds us of the Light of Christ, who can come into the world and into any situation in our lives.

All are welcome to light a candle here at St. Mary’s. A free-will donation of any amount is encouraged but not required.
