The St. Vincent de Paul Society St. Mary's Bellevue chapter is a ministry that helps the poor and needy families in the 68005 zip code area.
About SVDP
St. Vincent de Paul is a ministry consisting of a group of spiritual men and women who are dedicated to helping the less fortunate in their time of need. Members of our community may need help with paying bills such as rent and utilities, which is the most common way we provide assistance, but we also help in a variety of other ways. We help those who cannot afford necessary medications. We assist those who are homeless and anyone who needs a place to stay. At times, we also help with car repairs and provide rides to doctor appointments.
There are many ways in which you, as a St. Mary's parishioner, can help those in our community that are struggling financially. You can help by donating your time as members of St. Vincent de Paul, as well as through monetary donations - in which way St. Mary's parishioners have always been so generous. If you can't assist in either of these ways, you can help by being the eyes and ears of St. Vincent de Paul. If you know someone who is in need of financial assistance and they live in the 68005 area code, please have them call the Rectory in order to connect them with a St. Vincent de Paul representative and get them the help they need.
In addition to St. Vincent de Paul, there are a number of other organizations in the area that can help those in need. We collaborate frequently with ENCAP and Lift Up Sarpy, whose work is very similar to our own. You can contact ENCAP at 402-292-2961 and Lift Up Sarpy at 402-370-6553. ENCAP also runs a food pantry in Washington Park here in Bellevue and their office is located right next door to the pantry.
Receiving Help
In order to receive financial assistance from St. Vincent de Paul, we ask that families call St. Mary's rectory, press extension #3, and leave the information asked for in the recording. St. Mary's SVDP representative reviews these messages regularly. A team of two members of the ministry are then assigned to this case and will call the family to get a better picture of their needs and how SVDP can help them. Teams are made up of one man and one woman, usually husband and wife but can be any two people.
SVDP will help with any bills that a family is unable to pay at the time of the request. The max help limit is $300 per year per family. If they need more than that, they will be referred to other agencies in the area that can also help in addition to the $300.
Tree of Angels
People who receive assistance from SVDP during the calendar year are asked if they would like to participate in the Tree of Angels. The Tree of Angels is supported by St. Mary’s parishioners by donating needed items during the holiday time.
