Pantry Sunday was initiated at St. Mary's in 2008. The primary intent is to feed the hungry in Bellevue and, of course, to support the  work that the Bellevue Food Pantry does so well for our community.

Details

Pantry Sunday is held on the weekend of the third Sunday of each month. We prepare bags with a stapled that lists current needs for the Bellevue Food Pantry for the weekend of the second Sunday of each month. We reuse paper bags as much as possible. When needed, Family Fare donates a bale of bags upon request. 

We have made arrangements with the Bellevue Food Pantry for their van(s) to be in our parking lot on Pantry Sunday weekends for collecting donations. Gift cards may be purchased as vouchers for the pantry from Project H.O.P.E. In between Pantry Sundays, donations may be left in the old elevator entrance on the south side of the church for transportation to the Bellevue Food Pantry. 

There is no Pantry Sunday in December, as many of our families have other affiliations who support the Pantry during the holiday season. We also support St. Mary's Tree of Angels in December, which is a wonderful opportunity to help those in need.

How to Help

 We have a small group that transports donations that are dropped off to the Bellevue Food Pantry, prepares the bags, and promotes Pantry Sunday to the congregation. This promotion also includes yard signs that are placed around the church and on Mission Street at St. Mary's School that serve as good reminders to those driving past.

Where could we use volunteers?

• Deliveries of donated items needed to be taken to the Bellevue Food Pantry during business hours upon being dropped off at the church elevator entrance.
• Preparation of the bags & flyers and then placement in all of the church entrances every month - it would be wonderful to have a backup volunteer for this!
