History
Scouting began in England when Lord Baden Powell took a group of boys to the first Boy Scout camp on Brownsea Island off the coast of England in 1907. Two years later, Chicago publisher William D. Boyce was helped by a scout while visiting England and was so impressed by the young man's actions, including his refusal to accept a tip for a "good turn," that he returned to America with an idea to form a similar scouting movement there. In 1910, the Boys Scouts of America was born! Though the name has now changed to Scouts USA, as it now welcomes girls into the scouting program, it still maintains the high values that have made it a success for over 100 years. In February of 2020, Scouts USA celebrated its 110th birthday!
Bellevue Troop 305
Troop 305's history goes back to the year 1948 when it was first chartered to the Trinity Methodist Church with 18 scouts. In 1949, its membership shrank and the troop disbanded in 1950. However, in 1953, Troop 305 was re-chartered to St. Mary's Holy Name Society. In 1959, St. Mary's Men's Club sponsored the troop; St. Mary's Home and School Association sponsored them in 1961; the year 1987 brought the sponsorship of St. Mary's Family Life Committee; and since 1999, St. Mary's Parish has been our charter partner.
Troop 305 participates in a number of activities including camping every month, attending Camp Cedars or Camp Geiger summer camp, skiing at Mt. Crescent, and their annual gaming lock-in.
Pack 305
Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped young boys through the establishment of Cub Scouts - a year-round family program. Pack 305 began here at St. Mary's in 1973, and has seen many changes throughout the years. One of these changes is girls receiving the opportunity to become members.
